PAUA (2 – 3.5 YEARS)

PAUA PROGRAMME

The Centre comprises of two rooms to cater for the different age ranges.

The centre has a separate sleep room for those children who still sleep during the day.

Each morning the children work in small groups with one teacher and participate in a structured group time.  During group time children are exposed to a range of different concepts which increase their physical cognitive, language, emotional and social development.

A range of experiences are set up each day to enhance the children’s physical development.

Although teachers recognise the importance of planned exeriences they also encourage children to initiate their own play.

The Centre implements a ‘Being a Good Friend’ programme where children are encouraged to treat each other fairly, kindly and emphatically.

The Whales Group

The Whales is a targeted programme for our oldest children, the purpose of this group is to support children in their transition to the Pohutukawa centre and to instil a love of learning.

In the Whales group your child will be participating in a variety of experiences including language, maths, science, art, music and physical activities. The most important aspect of the Whales group is for children to be exposed to concepts in a way that fosters their love of learning and allows their confidence to grow.

Each day the Whales will work in their own room where they will partake in mat times, group times and morning/afternoon tea. Outside of these times the children participate in self-intiated experiences with all the Paua children and teachers.

PAUA TEACHERS

The 1:6  teaching ration provides plenty of opportunities for the teachers to support the children in all their endeavors.
